HIV diagnoses suggest prevention interventions are having an effect

The HPSC annual report highlights that in 2016 there were 508 new HIV diagnoses reported in Ireland, an increase of 5% over diagnoses reported in 2015. There are two main groups making up these numbers. Firstly, there are those where this is their first indication that they have HIV, and these account for two thirds of cases. Secondly, there are those who came to Ireland with a previous diagnosis of HIV and who are transferring their care here. These account for one third of the cases.
